Cleaning Your Kitchen The Right Way
Follow some of our tips to ensure that your kitchen remains sparkling clean.
The kitchen is known to be the space where we spend a considerable amount of time. Whether it be to cook, bake or enjoy our meals. No wonder that it also tends to be the room that becomes dirtiest the quickest. Cooking can result in grease splattering on the walls, crumbs gathering on the counter or floors and unsightly stains.
Eco-friendly cleaners
Eco-friendly cleaners are preferred when it comes to keeping your kitchen clean and free from any dirt and grime. These offer effective cleaning action without the harmful toxins. Aggressive cleaners are not beneficial to our health and have a negative impact on the environment. You are able to forgo the use of disinfectants if you are using water that is sufficiently hot.
How often should the kitchen be cleaned?
Due to hygienic reasons, it is advised to clean the kitchen on a regular basis. The kitchen can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mould if not tackled frequently. A rule of thumb is to clean the surfaces with hot water immediately when working with raw meat, fish or eggs. This prevents the risk of salmonella infection.
Daily cleaning tips:
- clean countertops and cooking surfaces after each use
- wipe away any spills immediately
- clean the stove top once cool
- sweep away any deposits that have landed on the floor
- clean the basin sink on a regular basis to prevent and deposits left as a result of dirt and grease
- wipe all surfaces with a dry cloth to prevent bacteria and mould from developing
Weekly cleaning tips:
- Wipe clean cupboards and surfaces
- Clean floors with a floor cleaner
- To prevent germs from accumulating on faucets and handles, clean these thoroughly on a weekly basis
- Replace any cleaning rags or sponges frequently, especially after being in contact with meat, fish or eggs - wash at 60°C
Monthly cleaning tips:
- Replace the filter of the kitchen hood
- Clean the kitchen hood
- Dust and clean the surfaces of cupboards
- The fridge requires a thorough clear-out and clean once a month
- Dishwashers carry their own degree of bacteria, therefore, it is recommended to run a wash cycle of at least 50°C to kill any accumulated bacteria
