How To | A Clean Dishwasher

In order to prolong the lifespan of your dishwasher and improve its efficiency, it is important to follow these basic rules when it comes to proper cleaning:

  • Ensure that the filter is clean by washing or rinsing it on a weekly basis. The filter is generally located beneath the dishwasher basket. Simply remove the filter and rinse with clean water to get rid of any food residues and dirt. Use a damp sponge and a small amount of dishwashing liquid if necessary. For stubborn dirt and limescale deposits, it is advised to soak the filter in a bowl filled with one glass of diluted vinegar or citric acid. Unclog any residues using a toothpick and rinse the filter, wiping it clean with a sponge.
  • Once every two months, run your dishwasher on an empty cycle at maximum temperature (95°C), replacing your regular dishwasher liquid or tabs with one litre of vinegar poured onto the walls of the machine. This will help degrease the interior and unclog the pipes. Dip a sponge in vinegar to remove any other unwanted dirt and grime.
  • Place half a lemon in the cutlery tray to disinfect the dishwasher and for eliminating any unpleasant scents.
  • Remember to use regeneration salt and rinse aid: regeneration salts helps with the overall cleaning of the machine and fights the formation of calcium deposits, while the rinse aid provides the dishes with shine and brilliance.

Remove any food residues from your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher.

Lastly, remember that a dirty and poorly maintained dishwasher is equivalent to washing your dishes in dirty water. It also goes without saying that using natural and organic detergents, such as dishwasher tabs and liquids, are both safer on your appliances as well as the environment!
